  • Dani Binnington’s journey to seek a holistic approach to her wellbeing started after her breast cancer diagnosis at the age of 33. Between then and now lies a long road of recovery, leading Dani to find herself in a surgically onset menopause by the time she turned 40. Dani shares her passion of a multi-sided approach to wellbeing openly, she writes articles for national newspapers and magazines and has most recently become more involved in sharing an understanding for the peri-menopause and menopause.

In 2016 Dani qualified as a yoga teacher and has run weekly classes, workshops and retreats since. Dani has cooked with hundreds of women, not only sharing her family friendly nutritious recipes but also creating a sense of community for her clients. She gained a deeper understanding of nutrition when she graduated from Leith’s Cookery School ‘Nutrition in Practice Course’. Dani’s interest in meditation and mindfulness has been deepened by a Mindfulness MBSR Course last year and she has mentored numerous women through their own cancer and menopause journeys.

“It is my biggest mission to help my clients to find their own unique path inter journeys to wellness and health. There is no right or wrong way but as we are all individuals we need to find what works for us. This, I believe, can create true transformation. All my work is judgement free and all-inclusive, This is at the top of my mission statement. Oh, and lots of warmth and (sometimes virtual) hugs included.”

  • Fiona Rizzi ia a nurse practitioner and nutritionist who has been working inintegrative healthcare for over a decade. Fiona has a deep passion for personalized medicine, encompassing physical ,emotional and spiritual support. In September 2021 she was facing a major health crisis when diagnosed with ovarian cancer. As a practitioner she was in complete shock as she felt she ‘should have known ’the symptoms. The first 3 months after the initial diagnosis were filled with shock, fear ,disbelief ,appointments, biopsies, surgery & major decisions. Every single decision from what supplement Fiona would take to what food she would consume caused her immense fear. This led her on a chaotic search to find alternative support alongside her conventional treatment. This was a steep learning curve about the complexity of support offered in the UK & Europe. Initially Fiona felt like she was organizing under ground drug deals to get access to simple adjunct treatments such as Mistletoe therapy or intravenous vitamin C. Most practitioners Fiona came across in this field would recommend a ‘1size fits all approach ’advocating for extreme veganism or a set protocol without any consideration for her physical, emotional or spiritual wellbeing. Fiona spent almost £10,000 on trying to find the right practitioner to help guide her on this journey and came back even more confused by what to do for support as a unique person with unique drivers mediators.

  • Glen Castelino has experienced both conventional and integrative cancer care in action when caring for his wife. He believes that better integration with a wider integrative oncology toolkit is crucial to supporting both people with cancer and their families.

  • Laura Madurini started as an integrative oncology patient in 2020 after being diagnosed with regional metastatic breast cancer, three years after a primary diagnosis and subsequent mastectomy. She has not looked back since. Integrative care has enabled her to transform her narrative from ill health to good health, from terminal illness to living in harmony with my body and spirit. Through diet, careful supplementation, mind and body practices, Laura was able to sustain 6 months of chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy. She still remembers being able to walk in and out of the oncology day unit with a spring in my step after 15 cycles of chemotherapy, rather than crutches or wheelchair, unlike unfortunately a lot of other fellow patients, often younger and with better prognosis. Today, three years later, Laura is still feeling well, full of energy, she has a positive mindset and is able to enjoy a very satisfying lifestyle.

Laura encourages all oncology patients to do the same. Since cancer is becoming more widespread and is affecting more and more young, active people, there is a clear need to integrate primary care, with well researched strategies to maintain and reestablish health through and post oncology treatment. Laura believes Oncio can assist and empower everyone towards their own health path, working in harmony and alongside conventional oncology, with a focus on support and wellbeing rather than feeling left alone, battling against cancer.
